Google Glass Updates its Notification Sync; Maps Includes Route Overview Feature - First Internet Google Glass Explorer Addict Reported
After a resounding silence, Google has finally released a new update on its wearable gadget, Google Glass.
Google's smartglass users will now be able to see Android app notifications directly in front of their eyes. According to reports from Techradar, Google Glass XE 22 and MyGlass 3.3 recent update will display the user's smartphone's notifications directly to Google's face-worn wearable.
Slash Gear reported that the new update came one month after the search-engine giant released a new travel feature that did not create expected internet hype.
The said update gives the Google Glass Explorers a leeway in getting their smartphones inside their pockets once they received a notice. The notification sync will work in all kinds of alert like new email, social network notification, or any action that will have a notice.
This latest update will also mean that Google Glass users will be flooded with both important notifications as well as 'unhelpful snarky comments' in their social media accounts. The notification sync will also work even if the notifying app is not a 'native' Google Glass app.
For example, WhatApp photo notification received through an android device, like Nexus 5, will be posted in the wearable gadget's screen even if WhatsApp is not a local app for Google Glass. Google Glass recent update is also applicable for Android wear smartwatches like Moto 360.
Google Glass latest update is seen as a handy update that can offer its Explorers a more user-friendly and comfortable experience. "This is an exceptionally handy update, no doubt good news for those using wearable," Slash Gear reports.
Aside from the notification sync update, Google Glass maps have been updated as well. The latest map update shows traffic or road accidents so that users can choose routes while driving. A display overtop of the route will guide the Google Glass Explorers in deciding the best route to take.
Meanwhile, The Guardian reported that a first patient was treated for internet addiction believed to be brought by overusage of Google Glass. The patient is said to use the wearable gadget 18 hours per day, removing it only when sleeping and washing.
The considered first Google Glass addiction patient had reportedly experienced withdrawals from Google Glass which worst than his withdrawals due to alcoholic drinks. The said patient, a Navy serviceman, bought the device two months ago to be able to be more efficient in his work in making inventories of Navy convoys.
But after continuous use of the gadget, he reportedly feels argumentative and irritable when he is not wearing his Google Glass. The patient "was also suffering from involuntary movements, cravings, memory problems and dreaming as if he was wearing the glasses," the Guardian reports.
Currently, psychiatrists have contrasting opinions towards internet addiction brought by technological devices like phones and computers. Many researchers on the field of psychology believe that internet addiction is just the tip of the ice berg of a more complicated problem.
Google, on the other hand, remains mum about the issue.
