Apple Pay Rumored to Launch Next Week Oct. 18: What Users Can Expect and Which Establishments are Accredited
An internal memo from Walgreens had been making it rounds all over the internet. The memo is asking Walgreens employees to "prepare" for the launching of the latest Apple service - Apple Pay.
The memo states: "In preparation for the launch of Apple Pay on Oct. 18, we would like you to cover the following material." Read the rest of the memo here.
According to Business Insider, Apple Pay is going to be the first mobile payment venture for Apple. The service is going to be open for iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and users can make payments for participating stores. For now, accredited retailers include Walgreens, McDonalds, Petco, Subway, Macy's and Apple Store. The launch is rumored to be on Oct. 18.
The memo is very vague. No other details about the so-called launch were included and it's not yet known if the launch is going to happen across the United States or if the service is going to be available to other countries as well.
It was explained in the memo that using Apple Pay is relatively easy, Gotta Be Mobile reports. According to the memo, users "only need to tap their iPhone 6 to the upper portion of the pinpad to pay for their purchase." It also assured the store managers at Walgreens that the new service is "easy, secure, and ensures their privacy."
Apple's partnership with large establishments across the United States is very significant since Apple Pay is exclusive for Apple users only. It seems that this move is a long-term plan in the making. This year, Apple also introduced iPhone 6 unique Touch ID fingerprint scanner which of course, offers an added security for Apple Pay users. Users are hoping that Apple will finally fix the bugs in iOS 8 to make sure that they can use Apple Pay seamlessly.
According to Appleinsider, Apple did announce that the launching for Apple Pay is happening this month but no specific date was given. If Apple Pay is going to be an effective tool, the sales of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is going to skyrocket even more, since the service is currently being offered to users of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
