Venom Carnage Movie Release Date: Two Villains in a Spin-Off there is More to Find Out
It seems like Spider-Man fans will be in for a treat with the upcoming spin-off movie coming this 2017. Titled "Venom Carnage", the title already suggests two separate villains, Venom and Carnage.
Venom first appeared in the Spider-Man 3 movie back in 2007 before the reboot of the franchise. He was played by Topher Grace. No confirmation or news yet on whether he will return to play the role again or who will star as the new Venom. In the said movie, Venom just played a minor role in the plot, distracting Spider-Man from the movie's main threat, Sandman. Sony wants to shed a light on Venom's origin and what power lies within him in the upcoming 2017 spin-off.
For the casual audiences, the name Carnage might not be as familiar as Venom. Carnage is, as depicted in the comic book series, a more evil version of Venom. It would make sense as the spin-off will center on Venom's origin, and having Carnage as a super villain as opposed to the lesser-evil Venom. No word as to who will play Carnage as well.
Alex Kurtzman, a writer for the Transformers franchise, will be directing the movie. Kurtzman will also be writing the script along with the help of Todd Mcfarlane, who drew the first appearances of Venom in the comic book Spider-Man series. Joining the writing crew is David Micheline, who worked on The Amazing Spiderman comic book series and also for writing story arcs for Iron Man and also the Avengers series. Completing the list is Ed Solomon, who is famous for writing Men In Black (1997), the popular magic inspired film Now You See Me (2013), and the comedy flick Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) starring Keanu Reeves.
With this big spin-off, a question of money comes into mind. Sony announced that the Venom Carnage movie will be produced by Hollywood entertainment producing giants: Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios and Sony Picture Entertainment. Other spin-offs aside from the Venom Carnage movie include the Sinister Six, which is also a movie that revolves around Spider-Man's villains, and a rumored Spider-Woman movie.
