'PlanetSide 2' Developers on Collision Bug: Developers Assure 'PlanetSide 2' Gamers That Collision Bug is Not Intended To Prevent 'Teabagging'
"Teabagging" is a popular gesture among "PlanetSide 2" players used to mock their opponents that they have killed. A player basically makes his character crouch and stand quickly and repeatedly over the body of a character he has killed.
A recent collision bug in the "PlanetSide 2" multiplayer game has prevented players from teabagging. There are speculations among the gaming community that the collision bug is actually intentional. While the particular bug does prevent teabagging, it also comprises the player's ability to fight effectively in the online game. The collision bug prevents a player from rapidly changing his position from crouching to standing.
Sony Online Entertainment, the game's developer has told Polygon that it does not approve teabagging. A spokesperson from SOE said, "It's not intended to be something where people can go out and do teabagging. We do want an environment that's friendly, inviting and approachable for every type of player, so that's what we're trying to focus on."
In the game's official forum, community manager Radar X initially commented that the bug was actually intentional. He also said that the game has screen which tells defeated players that they are owned.
Later, Radar X has change his stance and said the bug is an accident. Matthew Higby, the "PlanetSide 2" creative director confirmed that the bug is an accident and not intentional.
While teabagging is a common culture among "Planet Side 2" gamers, there is an ongoing debate among the gaming community if teabagging is just a harmless act or a shameful conduct that should be discouraged.
"PlanetSide 2" is a massive online multiplayer first person shooter (FPS) game. The game is in a science fiction setting, where players belonging to rival empires fight each other in combat.
While the collision bug, prevents players from teabagging their fallen opponents, it does limits the player's option in the game. The ongoing bug will probably result in the death of a player's character and an eventual defeat. It does not matter if the collision bug is intentional or not. The game developer must need to fix the bug as soon as possible.
SOE spokesperson did acknowledge that they are working to fix the bug. No exact date on when it will be fixed has been mentioned.
Developers will just have to find another way to discourage teabagging in "PlanetSide 2." It is interesting to note that teabagging is a popular practice in other popular FPS games like "Halo."
