'Twilight' New Short Film Series Including Kristen Stewart Involvement Coming to Facebook in 2015
Fans of the Twilight movies and books have some good news coming their way. There will be new short films created around characters from the series that will be posted directly to Facebook.
Lions Gate has announced that they will be selecting five aspiring female directors to direct the new mini-movies, which will release in 2015. The films will be about characters from the series, but will not feature any original cast members.
"We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of Twilight to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans," Lions Gate vice chairman Michael Burns told The New York Times. "This is the just the beginning-a template, if you will. You can probably guess what might be coming next."
Cast star Kristen Stewart will be involved as well. She will join a panel of women in the entertainment industry that will be selecting the female directors. The panelists include Kristen Stewart, author Stephenie Meyer, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Julie Bowen, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, film producer Cathy Schulman, and Frozen director Jennifer Lee.
"The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I've worked in the film industry," Stephenie Meyer said in a statement.
Twilight was a four part novel written by author Stephenie Meyer with the first book releasing in 2005. It charts a period in the life of Isabella "Bella" Swan, a teenage girl who moves to Forks, Washington, and falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. The series is told primarily from Bella's point of view, with the epilogue of Eclipse and Part II of Breaking Dawn being told from the viewpoint of character Jacob Black, a werewolf.
As of November 2011, the series has sold over 120 million copies worldwide with translations into at least 38 different languages around the globe. The four Twilight books have consecutively set records as the biggest selling novels of 2008 on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list[6] and have spent over 235 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list for Children's Series Books.
The books have been made into The Twilight Saga series of motion pictures by Summit Entertainment. The film adaptations of the first three books were released in 2008, 2009, and 2010 respectively. The fourth book is adapted into two full-length films-the first film being released in November 2011, and the second film in November 2012.
