Microsoft Surface Pro 2 vs iPad Mini 2: Features, Specifications and Price-wise, which is the better deal?

After releasing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, tech giant Apple is looking forward to launch their new product iPad Mini 2 this year. It is set to face tough competition from other brands though. Microsoft for one, is set to release Surface Pro 2. This 10.6-inch product has TFT 1920x1080 resolution and a 5-point multi-touch sensor. The cost of Microsoft's Surface Pro 2 will be around US$800.

Surface 2 is 9mm thick in dimension and has 5MP rear facing camera with built in auto focus system and a 3.5 MP front camera. Microsoft's Surface Pro 2 is designed to provide better photography experience because it is designed with a LED flash and geo-tagging system.

The tablet has a powerful processor of Intel core i5 and two version of RAM: 8GB or 4GB Ram, available for the product. The connectivity part consists of latest Bluetooth and Wi-Fi updates. It also has features like gyro, compass and accelerometer. The operating system of Surface Pro is the latest Windows 8.1.

The tablet lacks the ability of 3G or 4G system since it doesn't have SIM card slot. For connectivity, it depends only on Wi-Fi for internet.

iPad mini 2 will feature a Retina display, which will be 7.9-inch in size. The display will provide a resolution of 1536x2048. The display glass will be well protected by oleophobic coating to avoid scratches. It is much more lighter and thinner compared to the Surface Pro 2.

The rear camera features 5MP photo shooting experience with the face detection capability. Front camera features 1.2 MP and both the cameras has programs like touch focus, FaceTime, geo-tagging.

iPad Mini 2 is operated by iOS 7 but it can be upgraded to iOS 8.

iPad Mini 2 will have a dual core A7 chipset. PowerVr modeled as G6530 has also been added. The iPad Mini 2 has 1 GB of RAM and various versions having different internal storage upto 128 GB are also available. MicroSD slot has been provided to this device to give user more freedom regarding space.

The choice will ultimately depends on the buyers' intended use for the tablet and their personal preferences.
