How to Train your Dragon 3: Fans, you have quite a wait. Expected to release in 2017.
Thriller addicts are always wanting more, be it real movies or animated fantasies. How to Train your Dragon 2 recently opened to a rousing welcome. The sequel was as gripping as the original, if not more so. The third sequel has not only been planned but production is being mapped, and the expected release date is doing the rounds.
Writer cum director Dean Dubois has been upfront about the sequels since they were first suggested. The series was announced as a trilogy as early as in 2012. The sequel was always the middle episode, and with its immense box office success he's already raising the curtain on the third part. He has revealed how the series' end will tie back to Cressida Cowell's book sources.
Apart from that, composer John Powell has also put forth that the How to Train your Dragon 3 might be split in two, making the series a quadrilogy. Last weekend, at the Los Angeles time Hero Film Festival DeBois was on hand to talk about part 3. He outlined the context in which he had planned the three-act series. He said each part was not meant to be just separate adventures, but the development of each central character. He adds, "So by meeting Hiccup at this later stage of his life, he's now dealing with an organic and universal problem that many of us go through at that stage."
The third chapter or the second sequel is to culminate in his final coming of age. DuBois is very conscious of the series' journey from the first act through the third and possibly the fourth. There will come a point where the books of Cressida Cowell start, when Hiccup, as an adult, looks back on his life and wonders how they got to that point. That's what the third movie will be all about. And most of the fourth, if the idea of splitting part 3 into two becomes a reality.
