Gotham Series News, Reveals, Review, Spoilers and Casting: Ben McKenzie Cast as Detective Gordon in Upcoming Series
Gotham is an upcoming series based on the DC Comics franchise of the Dark Knight. According to the latest rumors, the series is going to fall somewhere between the Batman TV show and the Dark Knight movies. The series is set to premiere on September 22nd this year on Fox. Bruno Heller who is the series creator stated that this is going to be a different kind of installment from the DC Comics that we all know about. This is because it is going to be about ordinary men and women faced with extraordinary circumstances and holding their own to finally save the day.
This series is going to be a prequel to the Batman story that we all know and love . as such, young Bruce Wayne will still be in his formative years. According to the show runner, Bruno, there will be some villains that we know about currently. For example Two face, before he became what he currently is, was a childhood friend of Bruce and he will be slightly older than Bruce who according to the series is around 12. The main character in this prequel franchise is Detective Gordon. He is an idealistic detective and war hero, who is bent on trying to fix the streets. This is the time before he became the police commissioner and friend to Batman. As such, Ben Mckenzie has been cast for the role of Gordon.
Apparently, the past also had its super villains and Bruno Heller promises all of the deviousness and violence that is present in the Dark Knight franchises. On the other hand, being about cops, and an origin story, the show will feature a lot of procedural cop show aspects every week. This is not ancient history, though as the show will do its best to keep the context as realistic and appealing to the current audience as possible. This is one of the most anticipated shows this fall. According to the Associated Press, "In an industry where nothing is a sure thing, fall's most-awaited show by the most-desirable demo would seem to be a sure thing."
