Keanu Reeves Will be a Hitman in TV Action Series 'Rain,' as Well as Executive Producer
Keanu Reeves is venturing into a new field, the world of television series. Recently, it's been confirmed that the movie star has officially signed up to play the lead in the thriller action-drama TV series adaptation "Rain" from the best-selling book series by American author Barry Eisler. It will be Reeves' first TV acting and producing role.
It seems that the trend of movie stars transitioning to the small screen is just going to get bigger. This announcement adds the "47 Ronin" star as the current addition to a string of big movie stars crossing over to the small screen. There's Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Zooey Deschanel, Kevin Bacon, Kevin Spacey, Halle Berry, Don Cheadle, Jennifer Garner, Brian Cox, Michael Gambon, Karl Urban, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jamie Bell, Sean Bean, John Malkovich, Eva Green, Billy Bob Thornton, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman among others.
The story chronicles the life of half-American, half-Japanese John Rain, to be played by Keanu Reeves. He was a Vietnam War veteran serving the US Army Special Forces, later resulting into him being recruited by the CIA. In the first book, he is described to be working as a contract assassin who is known for his distinct style of killing; by making his victims appear to have died of natural reasons.
The actor discusses that he's more than delighted to be working on the series and bring the character to life on television, specially that he's a huge fan of the author.
Slingshot Global Media will produce and distribute the series; with executive producers including the author himself, David Leitch, Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves.
The home network and writer are yet to be named.
Reeves will next be seen in the action-thriller "John Wick," directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski and Eli Roth's horror thriller "Knock, Knock."
