'Zoolander 2' in Works with Ben Stiller, Says Justin Theroux
Zoolander fans have been wondering for over a decade now if a sequel would be coming for the comedy classic. The original movie starred Ben Stiller, who also directed the film. Justin Theroux, who plays the evil DJ in the movie, spoke to Vulture about the potential for "Zoolander 2," and the fact the he and Stiller have been collaborating.
"Yeah, we've got a script for the sequel, and we've just been in talks again," the actor told Vulture. "We're trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don't want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running."
Theroux initially scheduled to direct a Zoolander 2. He co-wrote and starred in Tropic Thunder (2008) with Stiller, and contributed to the script of Zoolander 2. His current commitment is to the HBO series The Leftovers and would likely prevent him from directing the film.
"I don't think I'm going to do it anymore," he shared. "It really depends on whether the show gets picked up. If it gets picked up, then I don't think I'll have the time to do it. So it'll probably get handed to Ben, which would be awesome."
"[N]ow I'm back full-time to dedicate time toward doing it," he said. "I met with Ben [Stiller] a couple times when I was in New York doing 'The Leftovers,' and then I'm meeting again with him probably in September."
This could just be talk, but it does seem like both Theroux and Stiller are serious about making a Zoolander 2 happen. We will just have to wait and see until the movie actually starts filming.
