Cory Asbury Speaks Out: "Everyone Knew" About Michael Tait Allegations

Worship artist and songwriter Cory Asbury has privately acknowledged that allegations of sexual misconduct against former Newsboys frontman Michael Tait were widely known within Christian music circles. According to a new report from ChurchLeaders, Asbury is quoted as saying that Tait's behavior "was something that everyone knew," suggesting that rumors and concerns had circulated among artists long before the allegations became public.
This revelation follows the explosive June 2025 investigation by The Roys Report, which detailed accounts from three men accusing Tait of grooming and sexually assaulting them between 2004 and 2014. Tait has since admitted that the allegations are "largely true," issued a public apology, and stepped away from ministry and public appearances to seek professional help.
In response to growing scrutiny, the remaining members of Newsboys stated that while they had heard rumors, they were unaware of the extent or nature of the misconduct until recently. "We are devastated," the band wrote in a June 10 statement, adding that they felt deceived by Tait for over a decade.
Asbury's remarks add to a growing chorus of voices calling for accountability and reform within the Christian music industry. Several artists and insiders have now come forward to say that whispers about Tait's behavior had circulated for years but were never formally addressed.
The fallout continues to ripple through the community, prompting conversations about transparency, abuse of power, and the culture of silence that can sometimes surround celebrity within Christian spaces.
