Liberty University Confirms Lil Nas X's Claim of Enrolment is False

Liberty University has clarified that rapper Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was not accepted to attend the Christian academic institution next fall despite a fake letter the rapper posted on social media claiming otherwise.
On Tuesday, Lil Nas X revealed that he will be taking classes at the university, where he will be taking a dual concentration in Christian Leadership and Biblical Studies starting in the fall. He even posted a letter Tuesday on X and Instagram that appeared to show he had been accepted to the Evangelical university.
"I know twitter hates me right now but i want yall to know im literally about to go to college for biblical studies in the fall," Hill had tweeted along with a picture of his supposed acceptance letter. "Not everything is a troll! Anyways IM A STUDENT AGAIN! LETS GOOO."
The letter, which otherwise appeared legitimate, prompted a fact-checking "Community Note" on X, which noted that the letter was obviously "altered" given that it was signed by Jerry Falwell Sr., the university's founder who died in 2007.
Jerry Falwell Jr., who served as president of Liberty University after his father's death, resigned in 2020 amid an alleged sex scandal.
The rapper has a new gospel song set for release on Friday (Jan. 12), titled "J CHRIST." In his announcement earlier in the week, the musician shared the cover art featuring himself taking Jesus' place on a crucifix as five bystanders begin to raise him off the ground.
A second video clip sees him nailed to a gold cross that suddenly transforms into a mechanical suit complete with a halo. "MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME," Lil Nas wrote in his announcement.
Lil Nas X rose to prominence with the release of his country rap single "Old Town Road", which spent 19 weeks atop the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the longest-running number-one song since the chart debuted in 1958. As the song was atop the Hot 100, Lil Nas X came out as gay, becoming the only artist to do so while having a number-one record.
