Country Duo Joey + Rory Still Professes Faith in God After Cancer Diagnosis and Hysterectomy
Recently Rory Feek, of Joey + Rory fame, posted on his blog that his wife, Joey, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer in May. On June 20, Joey underwent a hysterectomy, and will not require any chemotherapy or radiation.
Rory wrote in a post entitled, "Home of the brave - Joey, courage and cancer," that his wife's gynecologist, whom they had met only twice, cried when she told them the cancer diagnosis. "Before she could even say the word 'cancer,' her eyes welled up with tears and sobbing she said, 'I'm so sorry Joey...,'" Rory wrote. "My wife bravely smiled and said, 'It's gonna be okay, just tell us.' And so she did. "Joey has cervical cancer.""
The couple's announcement came just three months after the Feeks revealed that their daughter, Indiana, has Down Syndrome. In spite of these tragic events in their lives, the couple still professes to trust God through these ordeals. In fact, after the cancer diagnosis, the couple cried and sang the hymn "I Need Thee Every Hour" together.
Just last year in an exclusive deal with Cracker Barrell, Joey + Rory released their first ever Christian album " Inspired: Songs of Faith & Family" on July 16, 2013 via Gaither Music Group. The album debuted at number 166 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 3,000, while also peaking at number 31 on the Top Country Albums chart and at number 6 on the Top Christian Albums chart.
At the time of the album's release, Joey had this to say: "Our faith is the most important part of our marriage and our lives. And we've always recorded a song about our faith on each album we've made. Church has always been a part of my life, and I remember my mom singing those old hymns when I was a little girl. I've always wanted to do a gospel album...our fans have been asking for a long time when we were going to record an album filled with songs about faith. Now is the time."
