Whitney Houston is Featured on Pentatonix’s New Take of ‘Do You Hear What I Hear?’

After a surprising smash return of Whitney Houston this summer with Kygo on the smash hit "Higher Love," she's back again. This time Houston is the featured vocalistist of Pentatonix's cover of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Whitney Houston first released her version of the Christmas song in 1987 and since then, it has been a Holiday staple. Since its release, the Pentatonix version of this song earned over 25,000 plays.
After Pentatonix released this album, the group tweeted, "Our collaboration with #WhitneyHouston for "Do You Hear What I Hear?" is one for the books. We'll never forget this chance to blend all of our voices together. Whitney is truly one of the greatest vocalists of all time!"
"Do You Hear What I Hear?" tells a story loosely based upon the story of the nativity of Jesus though Jesus is never explicitly mentioned. A "night wind" tells a lamb of a star, following which the lamb tells his young shepherd that he also hears a loud song. They are each led to a "mighty king," whom they tell of a child in the cold and ask to bring the child silver and gold (much as the Biblical Magi, which in tradition with prophecies in the Book of Isaiah and Psalm 72 are often characterized as kings, did with their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh). The king proclaims a prayer of peace and announces that the child will "bring goodness and light."
This Pentatonix album features other artists in addition to the a capella group. That includes Jazmine Sullivan for "Joyful, Joyful." Their medley of "Winter Wonderland" and "Don't Worry Be Happy," featuring Tori Kelly, appears on this album. However, it was previously available on the 2015 album, That's Christmas To Me. The Christmas Is Here! song, "Grown-Up Christmas List," featuring Kelly Clarkson, is also on this album.
