Imprison Pastor Saeed Abedeni's Wife Speaks Out on His Condition
Pastor Saeed Abedeni, an American citizen, has been in an Iranian prison for 18 months for his Christian faith. He was working to build an orphanage in Iran when arrested. His wife, Naghmeh, and 2 chldren live here in the states. He is serving an eight year sentence. His health has deteriorated during his prison time; however, Iranian doctors have refused to treat him.
In November of last year, Pastor Saeed was moved from Evin Prison in Tehran to Rajai Shahr Prison, an even more brutal facility, in Karaz. Here he is in danger from other inmates who attack and kill one another. The American Center for Law and Justice said Rajai Shahr is "where political prisoners who are seen as a nuisance are stowed away...Murders or unexplained deaths are a regular occurrence."
"I am devastated and I do not know what to tell my children," Saeed's wife said. "I am more concerned now about his safety than at any other time during his imprisonment. I can only imagine the torment and anguish he is experiencing. He is truly defenseless in this prison."
Naghmeh continues, "During this most difficult ime, I am strengthened by my faith in Jesus Christ and I continue to pray for my husband's safety and his release. I am also grateful to those who support Saeed and our family."
"We're worried about his health," Naghmeh told CNN. "He will not servive the 8 years (he was sentenced) if he doesn't get out of there (Rajai Shahr Prison) immediately."
