Selena Gomez's Mom Deeply Grateful For Daughter's Kidney Transplant
Selena Gomez shocked her fans last week when she revealed that she recently underwent a kidney transplant in connection with her ongoing lupus battle. The young singer admitted that this was the main reason that she hadn't been out actively promoting her new music. Her health came first and as it turns out, one of Gomez's best friends from childhood, Francia Raisa, was her kidney donor. Gomez posted a photo of the two holding hands from adjoining hospital beds and now, after letting the initial dust settle, her mother, Mandy Teefey, is speaking up.
Teefey posted the same photo to her own Instagram account, captioning it as only a mom could,
"This picture is one of the most breathtaking images that will live with me forever.
For all those moments of not knowing if we were going up or going down, I can always come back to this picture and know we can always make it back up. As a mother I was helpless, scared and all I could do was pray for both of them, Francia's beautiful family. I am pretty sure I am banned from that hospital. Mama Bear was in high gear. Selena gained a kidney, I was able to keep my little girl, but I also gained another daughter....thank you to everyone who was there for Sel, Francia and our families. We survived from all the love, prayers and God."
What a frightening and overwhelming ordeal this must have been for the entire family. It's hard to imagine the bonds between both Gomez, Raisa and Teefey not being that much stronger after such a harrowing experience. It's also interesting how Gomez really was left alone to heal without a hint of her medical crisis leaking out to the press. It shows that even in Hollywood, if a celeb wants privacy they really can find a way to insist on it.
Now that Gomez is on the mend and back to work we'll have to see how this experience impacts her upcoming music!
