Auction of Whitney Houston Memorabilia Earns $500,000

Whitney Houston was the most awarded female entertainer ever. Not only was she an icon with endless accolades in the world of pop music, movies, TV shows, but also in Gospel music. Her Gospel soundtrack to The Preacher's Wife is still the best selling Gospel album. Sadly, due to issues to taxation, her estate had to auction off many of Houston's awards and memorabilia.
Heritage Auction, sanctioned by Houston's estate, handled the auction. The auction brought in $500,000. Heritage Auctions says the top bid in Friday's auction was $20,000 for a pair of Nike Air Jordan sneakers given to Houston by NBA great Michael Jordan. A Dolce & Gabbana fur coat worn by Houston onstage sold for more than $16,000.
The auction featured several costumes worn by Houston, her driving licence, her first passport, as well as gold records and other items the Grammy-winning singer accumulated before her death in 2012 at age 48.
A federal judge on Thursday blocked Heritage Auctions from selling Houston's 1986 Emmy trophy, which she won for a Grammy performance. The company returned the trophy to Houston's family.
