Jon Foreman of Switchfoot Debuts on Top Christian Albums Chart
Singer and songwriter Jon Foreman, who co-founded and leads Christian alt-rock band Switchfoot, debuts at No. 7 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart (dated Sept. 26) with EP The Wonderlands: Darkness. The set starts with 3,000 sold in the week ending Sept. 10, according to Nielsen Music.
Foreman released Darkness as the third of four EPs in his The Wonderlands series. The first, Sunlight, debuted at No. 2 on Top Christian Albums (5,000, June 13), while Shadows opened at No. 4 (3,000, Aug. 8). The fourth and final edition,Dawn, will be released, along with a box set, Oct. 23; the latter will include 24 songs, with each track featuring a different co-producer.
Foreman started Switchfoot in 1996 with drummer Chad Butler and his brother Tim Foreman on bass guitar. His goal with Switchfoot has always been to make music for all people. "For us, these songs are for everyone. Calling us 'Christian rock' tends to be a box that closes some people out and excludes them. And that's not what we're trying to do. Music has always opened my mind - and that's what we want".
Foreman's trio of 2015 titles (so far) mark his first solo entries on Top Christian Albums since he tallied four in 2008, led by the No. 6-peaking Summer EP.
