Patti Smith Shares About Her Thoughts Behind Her Oscar Nominated Song for "Noah" (Watch Lyric Video)

Rock songstress Patti Smith is elated that her song "Mercy Is" is nominated for an Oscar. The song was written for the Biblical based movie "Noah." During the movie, the song was also sung by Noah and his stepdaughter.
Reflecting on the song, Smith says, "I thought Darren would want me to deliver it more like a heavy metal ballad. But he wanted it to maintain its integrity as a lullaby. Even when I sang it with Kronos Quartet, I was still delivering it a little more aria-like, and he asked me if I could step back a bit with it."
Smith continues, "If my humble little song can represent such a big ship as the ark, I would be very proud."
Mercy is as mercy does
Wandering the wild
The stars arise watching you
A breath upon a cloud
Two white doves
Two white wings
To carry you away
To a land in memory
A land in memory
The sky is high
The earth is green
And cool below your feet
So swiftly now beneath the bow
Your father waits for thee
To wrap you in his healing hands
As the night sky weeps
Two white doves
Two white wings
To carry you away
For mercy is the healing wind
That whispers as you sleep
That whispers you to sleep
