How to Train your Dragon 3 Reveals and Updates: Director DeBlois Implies Next Installment to be the Final Movie

In the 2^nd installment of How to Train Your Dragon, we saw both dragons and Vikings living side by side. The start of the movie showed the dragon race had moved in with the citizens of Berks and had fast become their pets and companions. It seemed like everyone was benefiting from this arrangement, except maybe the sheep. The rest of the movie was based on peace and harmony but there were forces of evil who wanted the power of the dragons for personal gain. We also see how Hiccup is much happier exploring the world with Toothless by his side, than back home at Berk.

We all see this change as he is forced to take the helm when his father Stoic dies. After, Toothless becomes the Alpha dragon it seems that nothing can stop them any time soon, especially after the big huge leviathan monster retreated to the ocean with its scaly tail between its wings. Now, the biggest spoilers for the 3^rd installment are that all of the dragons die, or disappear, yes everyone of them. This is during a time jump and is fast forwarded to a context when Hiccup is an old man and reflects upon his earlier life.

Apparently, Jean DeBlois director of the franchise claimed that this is going to be the final movie this time round. Stopping at the 3^rd movie gives the director mote freedom in some ways without having to maintain the status quo. This time he will be able to drastically alter the setting or kill off the characters without having to worry about the implications for the next sequels. At the same time, he is taking advantage of the flexibility based on what he is teasing for How to Train your Dragon 3. The third movie is probably going to be about reminiscing the past life and era with the dragons with Astrid still at his side maybe.
