The Conjuring 2 Release Date Moved, Is James Wan Still Directing The Conjuring Sequel?
With only a $20 million dollar budget, The Conjuring made over $318 million worldwide last year. The James Wan horror movie was a sure hit. Later, its spinoff movie "Annabelle" followed this October. Now, there are talks of a sequel: The Conjuring 2. Unfortunately, New Line Cinema changed the release date of the sequel from October 2015 to 2016.
The good news is, James Wan signed on to direct the sequel Conjuring movie, while Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are expected to reprise their roles as Mr. and Mrs. Warrens in the upcoming Conjuring 2. Director Wan was recently occupied with his Fast & Furious 7 movie project, and is now back for the horror movie project. At least, according to Deadline's latest report. Wan is expected to start shooting the Conjuring sequel next summer.
The worst-case scenario is, he might hand the Conjuring sequel to someone else, given the fact that he is currently doing the same with The Insidious movie. While he directed the first two Insidious movies, the upcoming third one is directed by Leigh Whannell, who was previously Wan's Insidious writer and co-star. Wan also stated previously that he was "through making scary movies", which was after The Conjuring movie was released. Yet, given the popularity of the first Conjuring, and given the fact that New Line Cinema pushed back the release date of the Conjuring sequel to a later date, the report on Wan's directing the sequel movie makes sense; the postponed release date gives Wan enough time to promote his latest Fast & Furious 7 movie before promoting his next Conjuring movie.
For now, the plot of The Conjuring 2 is said to revolve around two possessed sisters from England in the 1970s. No official plot details are available at this point.
