Renee Zellweger Answers Critics: Her 'New Look' the Result of a Healthier and Happier Life—not the 'Knife'
After receiving a torrent of mixed feedback for her "new look," the 45-year-old actress has finally spoken up. In an exclusive interview with People, Renee Zellweger explained that her unrecognizable look is the result of her new happy and healthy life, and not surgery.
Despite the shocked and demeaning comments that plagued Twitter and Facebook in response to the new look, the actress simply said that she is happy that her new face is being noticed. "I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows," Zellweger said. The award-winning Hollywood actress spoke up about the issue because "it seems the folks who come digging around for some nefarious truth which doesn't exist won't get off my porch until I answer the door."
She also described the busy and overly stressful life that she has previously chosen to live. "I took on a schedule that is not realistically sustainable and didn't allow for taking care of myself," the "Bridget Jones" star said. Her distressed state affected her physical stability, leading the American actress, producer, and voice talent to choose a new path in life.
The "Jerry Maguire" actress said her current life moves at a slower pace, but she is healthier and happier, as she also shares a close and supportive relationship with her boyfriend Doyle Bramhall. The blonde actress added that her different look is the outcome of her happy aging: "Perhaps I look different. Who doesn't as they get older?! Ha. But I am different. I'm happy."
The Daily Mail reported that the "Bridget Jones" actress showed off her different face during ELLE's 21st Annual Women in Hollywood Awards, which was held at Four Seasons Hotel in California on October 20. After what was her first appearance following an extended hiatus, Zellweger has been the subject of news and opinions on the Internet and in other media outlets. Critics noted that the actress, currently in the fifth decade of her life, has a "super line-free forehead, altered brow and suspiciously puffy face." Because of these new features, Dr. Alex Karidis of London's Karaidis Clinic said that Zellweger might have received an upper-eye lift and a small dose of botox.
On the other hand, Time suggested that the actress opted for a new face because both the media and the public "were all incredibly mean to her old one." The magazine recalled that Zellweger was criticized for her pout and squint, both of which were associated with sour lemon candy. The Hollywood actress has also received critical attention for her "boney" structure.
