Obama Credit Card Incident Rumors and Updates: Obama Credit Card Declined at High End Eatery in Downtown Manhattan
A lot of people have experienced the slight embarrassment of having their credit card declined during a purchase, and even during a date, however, when our president Barrack Obama meets the same fate, that's news. Last month, Obama was eating with the first lady at one of the fancy restaurants in downtown Manhattan when his credit card was declined. "I guess I don't use it enough, so they thought there was some fraud going on," he told CNN. "Luckily, Michelle had hers." Fortunately Michelle Obama had a credit card on hand and paid for the meal.
Later Mr. Obama told the story at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as he announced the new protections for debit cards used to deliver federal benefits. There are an estimated 100 million Americans who have been affected by identity theft in the past year only. This includes high profile security breaches at retailers such as Target and Home Depot. This is obviously causing millions of dollars in losses. The US president is paid about 400,000 dollars a year and a non taxable $50,000 expense account. The president did not identify the restaurant but on September 24, he and Michelle ate at Estela on E. Houston St., location Lower Manhattan. The couple had burrata with Salsa Verde, endive salad, tomatoes and croquettes before their returned to their hotel shortly before 10.30 pm, according to an article by Eater New York.
The restaurant which I believe was shocked and mortified by the incident, posted an Instagram shot of the Obamas' order and said they were humbled by the visit. Of course, details about the incident from the restaurant itself will be kept out of the limelight, and that waitress is keeping the lowest profile she can at this time. They did not even admit to who ultimately paid the bill. A woman who answered the phone at the restaurant on Friday declined to comment. She said and I quote "I wasn't in that night and I don't have anyone who is."
