Jamal Bryant and New Birth Baptist Church Award Over 400 Scholarships

In an extraordinary display of community uplift and educational empowerment, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church awarded over 400 scholarships to students during a landmark event held today at its Lithonia campus. The initiative, spearheaded by Senior Pastor Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant, opened doors to higher education for students-primarily aged 18 to 21-who had not yet been accepted to college.
What makes this effort truly historic is the "no-hassle" admission policy extended by participating institutions. Students were granted scholarships and admitted without the need for SAT/ACT scores or college essays, removing traditional barriers that often stand in the way of access.
Among the prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) offering scholarships and direct admissions were:
-
Bennett College
-
Morris College
-
Southern University
-
Coppin State University
-
Paul Quinn College
Dr. Bryant explained that this effort was partially in response to recent federal attempts to eliminate Job Corps, a free vocational training program for youth aged 16-24. "We are standing in the gap," Bryant said. "When doors to opportunity begin to close, it's our duty as the Church to create new ones."
Dr. Jamal Bryant is no stranger to advocacy and innovation. A nationally recognized pastor, activist, and author, he is known for combining spiritual leadership with social justice. Before becoming senior pastor of New Birth in 2018, Dr. Bryant founded Empowerment Temple in Baltimore and earned a reputation as a bold voice for change. Holding degrees from Morehouse College, Duke University, and a Doctorate of Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation, he continues to lead with vision, compassion, and a commitment to the marginalized.
Under his leadership, New Birth has become a hub for empowerment, equity, and enterprise in the Atlanta metro area. Today's scholarship initiative is just the latest example of the church's mission in action-turning faith into tangible opportunity for the next generation.
