International superstar Lee Min Ho has recently landed his first lead role in a film titled "Gangman 1970."
The 27-year-old South Korean actor talked about his journey as an actor in an interview with Asia One Entertainment.
Rising to fame after the TV series "Boys Over Flowers," Lee said he does not think it is a matter of living up to the success of the said drama.
According to Lee, the South Korean entertainment industry works in a way that there is a "maximum of two to three productions that an actor or actress can be involved in a year."
"Given the constraints, we really want to make the most out of the opportunities that we're given. We really want to do well and it's not only a matter of success. It also has to be a meaningful project that can help us grow as actors," the actor explained.
In "Gangnam 1970," Lee plays a man who gets caught up in the power struggles during the real estate craze in Seoul's Gangnam district in the 1970s.
That was the period when Gangnam was still under development while there is conflict between political powers and darker organizations seeking to grab control of the exclusive and influential area.
The trailer of the said noir action film features the song "Anak" (Child) by Freddie Aguilar from the Philippines where international singers Lea Salonga and Charice, who recently appeared on an Oprah Winfrey show, are also from.
"Anak" is a 1979 Filipino song that became a hit song in several countries including the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and other European countries. It was recorded in more than 20 languages with more than 100 versions across the globe.
Aside from being the highest-selling song of the Philippines, "Anak" was also ranked number two at the Billboard's list of world hit songs in the 1980s.
Apparently, the song is still known among the modern generation. On Oct. 6, K-Pop band BIGSTAR's Sunghak performed the song in the Philippines, Hello Kpop reported.
Originally titled "Gangnam Blues," the film is set to be released in 2015, according to ABS-CBN News.
